the facilities are completed at our rainforest
site where we hope to share our permaculture values and vision
of a sustainable future with everyone.

more detailed descriptions:
1. Introduction to bamboo construction workshop: Participants will
view videos of contemporary bamboo building techniques from around
the world. We will then explore the fundamental hands on essential
components of utilizing bamboo in construction. Harvesting, preservation,
curing, joinery with other appropriate component materials that
work well with bamboo in sustainable natural building practices.
This workshop will be a weekend of exploration beginning with an
after dinner evening presentation followed by 2 sessions of hands
on focused fun on Saturday and a somewhat shorter program on Sunday
to allow participants departure time to take a local excursion to
another Big Island feature nearby. Our workshop will be held in
the surroundings of bamboo harmoniously growing amongst our indigenous
rainforest location very close to the active Kilauea lava flows
in lower Puna district of the Big Island. Small bamboo huts and
tent sites will be available on a limited basis.
2. An in depth bamboo utilization training program: For those interested
in developing the technical skills necessary to independently handle
building naturally with bamboo, we will offer longer term intern
programs. These participants will work with experienced professionals
on experimental projects at our site. Through this program we will
then qualify adequately skilled participants to apprentice on outside
public demonstration projects of B.V.H. Local building companies
working with bamboo will be accepting applicants with this background
to become a part of the professional building team of the highest
standards to showcase the potential of bamboo architecture. More
details will be available on our “Events and Programs”
and “B.V.H. new’s updates”
web links.
